The heart of the vision is for the youth (children and teenagers) from underprivileged townships to be exposed to nature and new places. They must witness what their city and their own country has to offer. They must be aware and know that there is more to life, that there is a whole world awaiting for them to be discovered. Their world has to be expanded. A friend once told me that he would have loved to be taken out to outings when he was a kid because he said his world would literally end at the roof of his shack. This needs to be combated. The heart is to open possibilities and that the youth will be given the opportunity to explore and discover new places and experience new things. We believe it can spark new loves, new passions, new career ideas and give a sense of purpose, something to fight for or fight towards to.
This project is about changing mindsets. This project is also about giving back; it's about restitution. It's about restoration. Apartheid has stolen dignity and value of many people. The living conditions in the townships, as mentioned above, does not help a child to prosper. That's why we want them to face the beauty of creation, to face the ocean and we want to help them hear that God says what they see is good and beautiful but who they are is even more important and more valuable to God than what they have in front of their eyes. We want them to experience God's love in the stillness of nature. Wild Child Project will be a faith based organization indeed. The hope is to enable them to believe in their dreams, their future and find hope again because their surroundings destroy all of that. The vision is to be a source of positive influence that they can access. A place where we protect them from the negative, where they hear and we speak about issues they face and where we encourage better lives.
